How to edit a recipient or employee

Update a Recipient’s name, TIN, address, contact details, or linked Issuers.

Quick version: Go to Recipients, find the Recipient, click their name (or Actions > View Recipient), make your changes on the Edit Recipient page, and click Save.

Recipients are the people and businesses you send forms to, including employees. In Helper, the employers, payers, and lenders you file for are called Issuers.

Common questions

Does editing a Recipient change forms I’ve already created?

  • Forms you haven’t filed yet: Yes. They use the Recipient’s current details.

Why isn’t there an Edit option in the Actions menu?
Editing happens on the Recipient’s page. Click the Recipient’s name, or View Recipient in the Actions menu.

Can I change which Issuers a Recipient is linked to?
Yes. On the Recipient’s page, scroll to Linked Issuers. Click Link issuer to add one, or Unlink to remove one.

Before you unlink: If the Recipient has unsubmitted forms for that Issuer, unlinking permanently deletes them. Helper asks you to confirm first. Every Recipient must stay linked to at least one Issuer.

What are the FATCA and 2nd TIN Notice switches?
They appear once the Recipient is linked to an Issuer. They save as soon as you change them, without clicking Save, and they apply to every Issuer the Recipient is linked to.

Why does the list show only the last four digits of the TIN?
Lists show only the last four digits to protect the Recipient’s information. You can see and change the full TIN on the Edit Recipient page.

Need to add someone new instead? See How to Add a Recipient or Employee.
