How to Link or Unlink a Recipient and an Issuer (Employer/Payer)

Connect a Recipient to more Issuers or remove a connection.

Quick version: Open the Recipient’s page and scroll to Linked Issuers:

  • Link: click Link issuer, check the Issuer, and click Link.

  • Unlink: click Unlink next to the Issuer and confirm.

In Helper, the employers, payers, and lenders you file for are called Issuers. One Recipient can be linked to several Issuers, so you only enter their details once.

3. If the Recipient has unsubmitted forms for that Issuer, you’ll see Delete unsubmitted forms? Click Delete forms and unlink to continue, or cancel to keep them.

The Issuer is removed from the list. The Recipient stays in your Recipient Directory and stays linked to their other Issuers.

What happens next

When you link, you'll see Issuer linked. and the Issuer is added to the Linked Issuers list. The recipient is then available when you create forms for that Issuer.

Link or unlink several Recipients at once

  1. In the Recipient Directory, check the box next to each Recipient.

  1. Click Link to issuer or Unlink from issuer in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Choose the Issuer, then click Link or Unlink.

You’ll see how many Recipients were linked or unlinked. Recipients that weren’t linked to that Issuer are skipped.

Careful with bulk unlink: When you unlink several Recipients at once, their unsubmitted forms for that Issuer are deleted without a separate confirmation. If any of them have forms you want to keep, unlink them one at a time instead.

Common questions

Can one Recipient be linked to more than one Issuer?
Yes. Link as many Issuers as you need. Each one shows in the Recipient’s Linked Issuers list.

Why can’t I unlink an Issuer?
It may be the Recipient’s only Issuer, and every Recipient needs at least one. Link another Issuer first, or delete the Recipient.

What’s the difference between unlinking and deleting a Recipient?

  • Unlinking removes the Recipient from one Issuer and keeps them in your Recipient Directory.

  • Deleting removes them from every Issuer permanently, along with their unfiled forms.

A Recipient with filed forms can’t be deleted. Mark them inactive instead.
