You’ve trusted our paper tax forms for decades. But did you know that Adams Tax Forms Helper Online is an authorized eFile provider? You can send taxes electronically, straight to federal agencies. No tax forms required.

Add Print & Mail Assistant from the eFile tab and Tax Forms Helper will even send copies to your employees and recipients. You never touch a form, lick a stamp or visit the Post Office to file.

The IRS reports 81.3% of all filings in 2022 were filed electronically.

Are you “required” to eFile?

The answer for large businesses is, perhaps.

Section 6011(e)(2)(A) of the Internal Revenue Code requires that any person, corporation, partnership, estate or trust filing 250 or more information returns must file certain returns electronically.

Those “certain returns” include the 1098, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 3921, 3922, 5498, 5498-ESA, W-2 and other forms. (See IRS tax topics, Topic No. 801 “Who Must File Information Returns Electronically” for more details.)

Nearly 195.2 million returns and other forms were filed electronically last year. That’s 81.3% of all filings in 2020, an increase of 5.7 percent from 2019.

Small companies—the future looks form-free

In fact, the IRS has long proposed lowering the eFile threshold gradually over several years to 10 employees. The current proposed timetable would:

  • drop the threshold next year to 100 employees for 2023

  • drop the threshold again to 10 employees in 2024

For now, the threshold remains at 250. Stay tuned to Tax Forms Helper email updates for threshold changes as they’re announced.
