How to Add, Edit, or Delete a 1098

Create a 1098 or 1098-T by hand, update it before filing, or remove one you don’t need.

Quick version

  • Add: On the Forms page, click Add a new form.

  • Edit: Click the form’s name.

  • Delete: Click Actions > Delete Form.

Forms that are already eFiled need a correction instead.

Helper supports the 1098 Mortgage Interest Statement and the 1098-T Tuition Statement. The steps are the same for both. Every form you create appears on the Forms page.

Adding many 1098s at once? Use Import on the Forms page instead. See Upload Payer, Recipient & Form Data in an Excel Template.

What if the 1098 was already eFiled?

Filed forms can’t be edited or deleted like a draft. Instead, click Actions on the form’s row and choose Make a correction.

Make a correction isn’t available when:

  • The form hasn’t been filed yet. Edit it instead.

  • The form was rejected. Fix it and resubmit with Edit and Replace.

  • The form type doesn’t support corrections yet.

How do I find a specific form?

Use the tabs at the top of the Forms list: All Forms, Needs action, Incomplete, Ready to file, Queued & sent, and Accepted.

You can also pick a tax year, search by issuer or TIN, and narrow the list with the Issuers, Form Types, and Form Statuses filters.

When your 1098s are ready, select them and click Checkout & File. See How to eFile with the IRS or SSA.
