Quick version: Delete a single form from its Actions menu, or select several forms and click Delete in the bar at the bottom of the Forms page.
Done with a form you know you won’t need? Deleting it keeps your Forms list tidy. Deleting a form in the current tax year doesn’t affect your records from previous years.
Important: You can’t undo a delete or recover a deleted form. Forms that have been submitted for eFiling can’t be deleted. If one needs fixing, file a correction instead.
How do I delete one form?
Go to Forms
Find the form. Use the search box and filters to find it quickly. See How to Filter and Sort Records.
Click Actions on the form’s row and choose Delete Form.
In the Delete form window, click Delete, or click Cancel if you change your mind.
The form is removed from your Forms list.
Delete several forms at once
On the Forms page, choose the tax year from the year selector.
Check the box to the left of each form you want to delete.
Click Delete in the bar at the bottom of the screen. The bar shows how many forms you’ve selected.
Check the number of forms in the Delete forms window, then click Delete. Click Cancel to go back and review your selections.
Check the number of forms in the Delete forms window, then click Delete. Click Cancel to go back and review your selections.
Careful with select all: The checkbox at the top of the list selects every form that matches your current filters and tax year, on every page, not just the forms you can see. Narrow your filters first, and check the selected count in the bar before you click Delete.
Filed forms are skipped: If your selection includes filed or submitted forms, the Delete forms window tells you they won’t be deleted. Afterward, a Delete results window shows how many forms were deleted and lists any that couldn’t be.
What should I check before I delete?
The Delete forms window shows how many forms you’re deleting, not which ones. Before you click Delete, review your checked rows and confirm each form’s type, issuer, and recipient.
Changed your mind about a selection? Click the X in the bar at the bottom of the screen to clear it.
Why can’t I delete a form?
It’s been filed or submitted. Use Actions > Make a correction instead.
It’s part of a correction chain. Only the most recent correction can be deleted. Delete the later one first.
Need to delete an issuer or recipient?
Issuers and recipients are deleted from their own pages. See How to Delete an Issuer (Employer/Payer) or How to Use the Recipient Directory.
